Purpose and Learning Outcome

Appropriate ongoing preschool assessment is an important component of any quality early childhood program. Young children should always be assessed in a natural setting while doing the things they do every day. Young children should be assessed throughout the day so that the teacher will be aware of the child’s skills in all areas of development.

I will observe, write anecdotal notes, and reflect on each child’s abilities. I will plan according to what they have learned through their observations. If it is apparent that a child never counts past three the teacher knows that she must provide materials and opportunities and guidance for this child to count as often as possible.

Assessment Context

Students will be able to paint a flower scenery from what they see around their neighborhood or home.

Test and Essay Items

My though process and rationale behind the test item was to get the children analyze more and go beyond what they can learn while covering “plants.” The well-constructed essay item aims to test complex cognitive skills by requiring the student to organize, integrate, and synthesize knowledge, to use information to solve novel problems, or to be original and innovative in problem solving (Kubiszyn & Borich, 2013). Teaching preschool you want the children use more cognitive thinking so you will be able to evaluate how much they know and how they have learn in that particular unit. The potential of the essay item as an evaluation device depends not only on writing appropriate questions that elicit complex cognitive skills, but also being able to structure the students response so that other factors do not obscure you ability to evaluate whether the students is applying the complex cognitive skills you are trying to measure (Kubiszyn & Borich, 2013).

Teaching preschool the children have to accomplish several early learning standards from the different subjects like: Math, Science, Language, etc. With this unit of “plants” I covered several standards but these test items should let me know if the children has reach their goal in learning what we have covered. Usually we visit a KWL chart as a group but I do test the children individually just to see if I need to at least do another week of this study. I try to make it fun as possible so the children can interested and not bored.

In this assignment, I will be writing three learning objectives. Learning objectives are
written statements which are clearly, specific learning outcomes Kubiszyn, T., & Borich, G.
(2013). I am choosing to write objectives for Preschool students. The unit that we are going to cover is “Plants.”

1. Students will identify what makes a plant grow by planting their flowers of choice
    in the classroom.
2. Students will distinguish between a fruit and vegetable by sorting items into the correct
    labeled category.
3. Students will be able to count flowers from 1-10 using flashcards.

Get the students to take pictures of their plants each month. Once, they have taking the picture let them describe their plant to the class during group time.

2. Students will distinguish between a fruit and vegetable by sorting items into the correct labeled category.

This could be considered a group project during circle time or group. Make to boxes and labeled one fruits and the other vegetables. Let the children decide if the item is a fruit or vegetable. Once they have name labeled the correct fruit let each child put an item in the correct box.

3. Students will be able to count flowers from numbers 1-10 using flashcards.

You can either you this activity during group and individually to help students understand numbers. Simply show the flashcard to the students let them count the flowers and say the correct number of flowers.

This is a fun unit to get the children involve. You should also send home activities that can get the parents involve as well. These test or activities support the outcomes by testing the knowledge of what the children are learning and what they should know after this unit. These test shows that children are learning several skills such as: Mathematics, Language, Social Studies, Cognitive, Science, and Health. This unit is not just about plants but it revolves everyday life and shows the children the importance of nature.
